At Massey Towing and Truck Service, we do both: haul and tow. However, unless you’re in the industry yourself most people do not know that there is a major difference between hauling and towing. We are experts at what we do and we have a strong understanding that different trucks serve different purposes, and it’s our priority to relay this information to our customers.

Hauling

When you haul something it normally means you’re transporting a large vehicle or very heavy cargo and taking it from Point A to Point B. Since the cargo that’s being carried is immensely heavy this means the trucks have to be larger, heavier, and well equipped. If they’re not, the job cannot get done. Most of the time when something is being hauled it tends to be over a long distance such as when one moves from one location to another.

Towing

Towing is when a tow truck directly pulls a vehicle behind it. Tow trucks are not as big as hauling trucks but they’re well equipped. How heavy is a tow truck? They can weigh anywhere from 8,000 to 10,000 lbs depending on the type of equipment they possess. Various tow trucks carry different equipment such as dollies, hydraulics, and hitches. The majority of the time tow trucks are utilized in situations like when your alternator stops working and the car won’t drive or in instances of car accidents.

Various Trucks

Now we will provide clarity as to the different types of trucks there are and what specific purpose they serve.

  • Flatbed Trucks

Flatbed trucks normally have a smaller cabin and following behind is a long, flat, and open trailer. This trailer is capable of holding heavy cargo such as equipment or any other heavy transport materials like cranes, steel beams, and concrete.

  • Wheel Lift Tow Trucks

A wheel lift tow truck is exactly what you picture in your head. It’s a type of tow truck that has a particular type of equipment that attaches underneath the front wheels of the car, lifting it off the ground, and trailing it from behind. One benefit of this type of truck is your front bumper is less likely to be damaged when transporting.

  • Integrated Tow Trucks

An integrated tow truck is most commonly used to tow a larger vehicle and is able to do so because it’s powerful, heavy-duty, and a secure tow truck. If an RV, bus, or truck breaks down this is the type of truck you want as it will get the job done seamlessly.
